She nodded slowly and stepped forward, raising her arms in greeting. “Yeah,.. and you know what, I’m just as amazed about having a brother. I had no idea.” Lexx didn’t hear a word, lunging forward like a kid to grab her. He couldn’t help it, the resemblance was close to what he remembered of his mother and the voice was almost the same. “Alyssa… I have a sister!” He grinned happily. “I go by Kane now,” She stated, somewhat relieved that the awkward part of their encounter was over. Kane knew nothing about her brother. She hated the game and had better things to do, but this was an opportunity for more than just a family connection. It was his fault she was in the predicament she was in,… well, the currently pressing one. Family really meant little among the Rishans who had never had one. There were intact families who had strong bonds among them, but the scattered ones who had the desire for their own families, were usually more interested in making a family than finding them. Lexx was different. Kane knew that much. She’d done a little research on the way to pass the time. He was at least ten when he was handed over to the ADC. He was eight or nine when their mother died. He remembered what it felt like. Kane remembered nothing. She’d been taken and sold to a Rishan couple who couldn’t have children and were well off enough they could pay for one. They were looking for a newborn, female… and what they had gotten was a very hyperactive and somewhat reckless daughter. She’d been more trouble than they could handle by the time she was fifteen and then replaced her with a more manageable child. Kane had been on her own since then and had the scars to prove her ability to survive. “Seems I have a very popular little brother.” Kane turned on the charm, running her fingers through Lexx’s hair, brushing the wayward strands aside. A very handsome and well-built brother. Not bad at all. Now, if only he wasn’t her brother. “And it seems that your involvement in this game is not good for me.” “Oh?” Lexx shifted away from Kane, looking at her awaiting an explanation. A heavy weight gripped Lexx across the shoulders. What had he done? “Yeah, the ADC wants me. That message came from a private source, along with a premium visitation pass. It’s being run on bounty hunter lines.” Kane tilted her head aside, “If I don’t find a place to stay that is out of bounty hunter jurisdiction, you won’t have a sister. I was told to come here before the hunters located me, so here I am. I was also told that Earth is off limits for them unless I’m now a global threat,.. and I swear I’m not.” “I know of a place,.. let me get a plate.” Lexx didn’t hesitate in responding. He’d tell her about the island. She’d be safe there. Chel pressed up against the door of the bunkroom, trying to listen. “Who is it,… Claudia?” “Noooo,….” Fly whispered, sitting on top of Chel’s head, also trying to listen. “It’s someone I don’t’ know! They’re talking,…” “About?” Chel persisted, hoping the squirrel had better hearing than she did. “Forget about it, Chel.” Dash had picked up the hem of Chel’s sleep shirt between his teeth and was tugging at it, trying to get the human away from the door. “Come away from the door.” “Yes,… it’s rude to listen to private conversations.” Stealth purred, her own ears swiveled to the door with intense attention. Zeta and Epsy stood right behind them, staring at the door, while Dig nestled under the still warm covers on the bed to find a good place in the dark to continue his sleeping. Chel took a step back as the tiger tugged, a half pout, half smirk fixed across her face. How can you say no to an 800-pound cat? She really wanted to know what was going on,.. and why Lexx had yelled. And most importantly, whom was he talking to?

  1. A very handsome and well-built brother. Not bad at all. Now, if only he wasn’t her brother.
    No incestual thoughts! NEVER EVER!

    1. They weren’t raised together. Assuming the biological aspects of their psychology are mostly like humans’, it’d be weird for her NOT to find him attractive. Siblings raised apart almost always do.
