Meanwhile, the ADC Headquarters’ main relay was in an uproar as investors patched in to demand explanations from the shift router. At the topmost level, 15 elite investors converged. “What is going on?” The clicking of an alien language translated into a common language. “How did Daesha Nina learn of this?” A second voice chimed in, “Those records were sealed for the sake of the game! One leak was bad,…” “Yes, but we have his silence and there is no way that an investor would bring down his interest,” A third interrupted, chittering on impatiently. “This leak complicates things far too much. Nobody would care if Daesha Nina disappeared,.. but Shira Alyssa Kane is another matter! We need her in our hands. She is as necessary as Lexx to our next class of master dice.” The shift router listened in, taking note of the concerns and thinking of how to control the situation. The only thought through her head was disgust. These investors were always thinking about their crids and failed to look at the possibilities. “DNA is only good for clones. We need the variation that a viable male and female would provide. There is a limited pool of qualified Rishan and they are scattered.” The third investor continued her tirade. Clones would be cheap to produce. The only problem was that they looked exactly the same and it had long since been discovered that if you tampered with the DNA to make them look different, even with their expertise, other things changed as well. There was also a galaxy wide ban on cloning of complete beings and more than one corporation had been brought down because of it. The cost if they were caught far outweighed any savings. They needed Lexx and his sister. Lexx was a surprise when they found out what they had in him. There was said to be several classes of Rishan originally developed. The first pure strain was overly modified to a point that they were too adept at adaptation. They were too smart, too strong and way too human to be handled if there were a number of them. Instead of disposing of the strain, they thought they would mingle them into their secondary strain to weaken it. They thought it had worked, but the original slaving corporation only had first generation progeny. It was kept a secret, even when the descendants of the first strain began showing that they were physically and mentally more capable at the jobs they were given. Naturally, the most promising Rishan’s were paired up, creating a few family lines that were exceptional in everything. By this time, all documentation on them had been destroyed by the original slaving corporation and they could care less. They’d made their fortunes. “And there’s something else to consider.” A fourth investor grated in irritation. “Lexx refuses any female we send to him, but he’s apparently taken to this human female. If that relationship continues, it could get in our way.” “Ahh,…” The router finally decided it was time to intervene. “But our ratings and the crids on this event are at an all time high. Check your accounts and put your worries to rest. When the time comes,… we will offer Lexx a new deal,… one he cannot refuse. Until then, do not stress. We have everything in our control.”
