Skate didn’t see the attack coming. Lexx lunged at her head, swinging both of his wings underneath her jaw. Her eyes bulged in surprise and she instinctively jerked her head up as high as she could, carrying Lexx with her. The force drove his wing talons deeper into her jaw, latching them firmly into the bone.
The sea monster was no longer holding herself back as she shook her head violently from side to side, sending droplets of blood spraying from the freshly opened wounds in her jaw. Lexx wasn’t in a position where he could do anything lethal, but it hurt and bled more seriously than it actually was.
Lexx grasped a couple of handfuls of Skate’s thick skin and clung to the underside of her jaw until he could reposition himself. He had to put more effort into this to make it count in his favor.
