Jayne and Tayne continued to stare as Chel reached behind the back of her head, gripped the ponytail that had been so carefully tied … and proceeded to saw at it with the broken mirror. Chel grimaces. The glass pulled and cut raggedly, but after a few minutes of work, she had managed to completely sever the pony tail.
Chel stared at the handful of hair. They had cut her hair without asking her. It seemed like such a minor thing, but the more she looked at the hair in her hand, the angrier she felt. “I still decide.” Chel murmured. She still had control over herself and what happened to her. She wasn’t entirely helpless, was she? At least … when it came to her hair.
The symbolic significance of cutting your own hair, as a symbol for the misfortunes of the past shall not be underestimated. It may be a simple gesture…but it inspires courage. And that’s just what she needs right now. The strength to carry on.
