“What kind of civilized society allows people to be abused for entertainment against their will?” Chel turned a critical eye to Maelinn. She was part of that society. Maybe she had some sort of special insight as someone who did not support it. “A clever one that understands the power of words and changing their meanings to suit their needs.” Maelinn offered Chel a cup. “In Lexx’s case, parents is a watered down word that applies to anyone or thing taking care of a minor, including organizations, with the right to train them for an occupation and convince them to enjoy it.” Maelinn filled Chel’s cup with the thick syrupy mixture in the pitcher.

  1. “It’s not brainwashing and slavery, it’s job training and a career!”

That doesn’t make it any less bastardly on the part of the society, and there is usually a reckoning when such issues go unchecked for too long.

  2. Inquisitive Raven

Nitpick alert: I think the word you’re looking for is “insight.””Incite” is a verb meaning to encourage or provoke as in “inciting a riot.”

  3. Is Lexx a Minor? o.O Can’t be, I seem to remember he’s been rented out to ladies before.

    1. He was a minor when the ADC adopted him.

Besides, maybe it’s okay for minors to be “rented” in their society. Their laws (and enforcement) are different than ours.

  4. Twist words & meanings and 2+2 can equal 6.

Sadly, politics and the media do this all the time.

We also tend to judge others based on the set of rules we live by. Sadly the laws & rules of one country do not apply to others so why would it apply to other planets as well. Chel is young with a good heart. Can’t blame her for how she thinks & feels cause I agree with her. I think that’s why Lexx loves her so much.

    1. Also puts into perspective the worlds that Vic’s people want to get into touch with.

If I remember correctly, some of the worlds are kept in check by the other worlds in the collective space union. But at a drop of a hat, they’d love to go to war with other planets, all they need is a reason to justify it.

Not to mention, I think it was mentioned somewhere, that some reasons were because they’d consider some of there fellow sentient tasty snacks.

I’m not sure if that’s a bad faulty memory of mine, but it would make Vic’s attempts to push things a little more dangerous then he realizes if true.

    2. Well it starts when the government starts confiscating little kids’ lunches from home because they don’t meet “Nutritional guidelines”…and give the kid Chicken Nuggets instead.

      1. -I- would be moved to protest if that happened to my child – she is not allowed to eat cheap chicken nuggets.

  5. It makes sense, if there are countless billions in the galaxy, who really cares about ummm sentient life rights? When, even if thousands die in a minute, they are replaced just as quickly.

  6. It’s like the gladiator tournaments of Ancient Rome. A way to placate the masses. I wouldn’t be surprised if the higher-ups of governments are encouraging the continuation of the game to placate the masses and prevent them from rioting or fighting among themselves. It’s the same reason (excuse me for generalising) rednecks and bogans love contact sports. It’s an acceptable way to express the inherent bloodlust and desire for combat that humans sometimes have.
If Lexx wins and brings everything tumbling down, then what will replace it? War? Another game of equally bloodthirsty proportions with a new name and a new face?
