A few minutes passed, that seemed to stretch into hours, then it was over. Lexx found himself gasping for breath in a pool of blood on his hands and knees as the grid vanished. He wasn’t sure what had just happened, other than the intense pain he had woken up to had ceased and he was now exhausted and unsure if he could even stand. Lexx stared at the floor and shakily lifted one hand to test his control. Blood dripped from his fingertips and he found himself fixated on the bright color. Even in the darkness, it was clear to his eyes. There was something odd about it. The blood suddenly shifted and defied the ship’s artificial gravity by rolling up his fingers. Lexx’s eyes widened suddenly as the blood droplets lightened in color and seemed to vanish into his hand. The pooled blood dissipated like a mist around Lexx, returning to his body in a rush that made his head swim. Lexx still wasn’t sure what was going on, but he was beginning to feel a lot better about it. One thing was for certain. There was nothing wrong with him now.

      Heh… being a chigger-magnet, and having lived in places with massive infestations of the wretched things… that is both horrifying and hilarious at the same time.

      First time I ever got them, I was heavily pregnant with my first child, we walked all over a grassy lot surveying it with prospects of buying it for a mobile home… I ended up with dozens of chigger bites everywhere. They get in the worst spots, too.
