“I can’t help it.” Riley leaned forward slightly, obviously thinking he was being complimentary. He didn’t even see it coming. Chel reached out and slapped him hard across the right cheek, immediately regretting that she’d allowed herself to do that. It was like he had been daring her to do something.
Riley blinked in shock. He had not been trying to antagonize her. This time, he wasn’t playing with her. He was completely lost as to why he’d been struck and amazed that she’d done that. Of course, it was common for Littan females to smack someone across the face, but he had not seen any indication that Chel was going to do it.
Lexx’s jaw dropped and he opened his mouth to say something, but was at a loss for words. Chel had already turned her back on them and was walking up the aisle to the arena’s exit. Zeta and Stealth watched quietly. They had been unusually silent during this entire time, mainly not wanting to get Maenae’s attention. Neither of them followed Chel. She wouldn’t go far. Probably to the court outside and that was it.
“I get the distinct impression that Chel doesn’t like me.” Stated Riley in awe, as though someone not liking him was a foreign notion.
“Really? And this just occurred to you?” Lexx grumped dryly. “You deserved that. At least she didn’t shoot you.” He was a little angry with Riley for causing the situation, which he would have to do something about. Riley didn’t have to stay with Chel, Lexx did. “I’ll catch up to her. Take Maenae to the room, okay?”
Lexx took a moment to grab his shirt and overcoat. He tossed the overcoat to Riley and struggled with the process to put his shirt on while running up the stairs without tripping and falling on his face.

Hmm…Riley didn’t have to stay with Chel, but Lexx did. Wrong. Lexx doesn’t have to stay with Chel, but chooses to. Big difference.
And I would’ve laughed really hard, if his jaw had been dislocated from her slap…especially after it was mentioned, that it was very easy to do so a few pages ago 🙂

I kinda think it would have been funny if she had punched him in the chest. “Ow! You’re hard!” “For you? Always.” “Get away from me you pervert!” And then she slaps him and storms off.
