He looked up and blinked as the very person he wanted to see was standing there, with a littan female he didn't recognize. "You didn't bring Mae-" He began slowly, not sure he wanted to accuse Riley outright.
Especially not with him and this other littan dressed up in the way they were. He wasn't accustomed to seeing Riley in a dress uniform and felt a little awkward in his own casual clothing.
"No." Riley laughed. "Well, not exactly. She 'escaped' from school and my crew recognized her and picked her up."
"I wanted to see you!" Maenae giggled.
Lexx blinked again.
"No-one told me …" He was honestly surprised. He paid that school to take care of and look after Maenae. There had not been any report about her being missing. He scowled inwardly, realizing that they had just sent the usual weekly report that she was doing well in her classes and behaving. He would have to remember to file a complaint. This was unacceptable.

Absolutely unacceptable! Maenae is not sufficiently equipped to wander off on her own! She doesn’t even have a cute animal sidekick! How will she survive the harsh realities of the universe without the power of friendship!?
