“Stealth and I were the smallest kittens .. we would have starved.” Dash shivered at the memory of an empty stomach, something he had not experienced in years. “Nobody made sure we ate.” “I was going to be sold to a restaurant that day!” Swiftpaw’s ears twitched and he fluttered his wings. “Lexx has always made sure we had what we needed, even when he didn’t.” Dash spoke aloud his observations. There had been times, in the beginning, when Lexx had first started the game that Lexx had skipped meals, while the dice ate. Lexx never complained.

  1. I’d be interested to know what Restaurant sells fox meat…

  2. Man the galaxy is a twisted place. o_o And I thought Earth was bad…-huggles dice- So were Stealth and Dash from the same litter, or were they both just runts? And poor Swiftpaw…

  3. I’m pretty sure that Stealth and Dash were from different litters and runts to boot. Although, Chel was taking good care of Mittens, before she became Stealth.

  4. Different litters. None of the dice are related to each other. 🙂

    1. Turnip the Scintillating

I thought Fly and Scythe were brothers?

  5. Yeah… I thought the same as Tom… Chel cared for Mittens/Stealth which makes me think the dice are talking about their past or orig selves… looking back at yesterdays… I seriously think they dice are describing their previous incarnations since Energy if I remember correctly started on Earth as an old floppy eared dog… I don’t see much call for dog pelts (unless you count Cruella DeVille >.<)

  6. So, Lexx is either a really sweet guy on the subject, or he’s a munchkin for loyalty quests…

Meanwhile, are these what the animal bases remember, or are these memories from imperfect wipes? Cause Mittens was Chel’s first, so if anyone kept her fed, it was Chel. Unless my memory is messed up again…

  7. What are you talking about Horn? Our own home is far from pretty. For every atrocity presented in this story, the same thing has been done/is being done on Earth. The only differences are method and scale. The exploitation of nonsapient (prior to being converted to dice) animals is actually one of the minor offenses.

  8. For the first two sets of Lexx’s dice, the bases WERE chosen by him. (I haven’t had a moment to even think about getting the wiki back up. 🙁 – Then another set was added for each set of the game he’s done that were randomly selected … or maybe not so random. Each dice has an original alien base form which they will look more like with each level up, although sometimes will retain some attributes of prior bonded forms.

And yes, Serenity and Sirius have the same base creatures.

  9. Tiffany, thanks for the info.

  10. Seems like most of the dice caught a lucky break.

  11. I was pretty sure they were talking about their very first forms. 😉 Wouch, does this mean they add a new personality each time the dice bond to a new creature?

  12. My understanding of it is that the personality of the base creature is altered by the bond and forms the “essence” of who the dice will be. Later bondings will alter the personality, but only to a minor degree.

  13. Stealth actually said, waaaay back at the beginning of the story; the dice retain their memories each time they’re brought back. She remembers each time Lexx played, all of the dice remember each other…it only makes sense that they would remember their previous lives to an extent as well. Granted, they wouldn’t have been able to comprehend much of what was going on then, but I think they realize it now. Serenity knows what it meant that they were being sold for their skins, even though she didn’t then…
And she and Sirius are the same base species? O: Wow, wouldn’t have guessed that. They are both dog-type animals on Earth, so it makes some sense. Can’t wait to see her leveled up.

  14. Wasn’t Dash originally a tiger? Chel even lamented the fact that he’d been an endangered species.

  15. hrmmm back in the olden days foxes were cooked and eaten, as for the kittens well animal negligence is a problem here on earth too…

  16. Lunar, Dash’s base on Earth was a tiger yes. But that is the third animal his dice bonded with, not the first.

  17. I am suddenly wondering how different these “advanced” species are out there from the humans on Earth.
Do you think they have the memories of the animal that they bonded to? I mean, does Stealth remember being Mittens?

    1. Stealth has explicitly stated that she does.

  18. Yeah … I don’t get the comment about Stealth being likely to have starved because no one made sure she ate. She was Mittens, the (we assume well loved) domesticated pet of Chel.

    1. That was the bonded animal in this set. I’m guessing in her original form, before Lexx picked them for his first game, she was the runt of the litter. She remembers being Mittens because that’s the actual animal the dice bonded with.

  19. Lexx picked out the worst dice because he had a soft heart. Her protected them and fed then when he went hungry. He has never abused his dice. Except that one time when Zeta fried stealth and fly. But all things considered, if he could, he would take them all to Earth, and keep them all fed and happy for the rest of their lives.
