Zeta didn't have to wait long. A couple of large fish swam right between his legs, riding the current. He jerked his head down with a predatory growl and got a mouth full of water. Zeta spun with a growl and leapt into the middle of the stream. He ducked his head under the water and snapped blindly at a fleeing fish.
He missed.
Then, he missed again.
And again.
Zeta's fur rose in agitation. Surely it couldn't be that difficult to catch a fish. He snorted water out of his nose and was about to give up when he spotted a nice fat fish eating among some of the larger rocks near the edge of the stream. Zeta immediately fell into a crouch and a moment later lunged at the fish.
Water sprayed everywhere and Zeta found himself sprawled across the rocks… and once again fishless. That was until he noticed something grey flopping on the beach in front of him. Zeta didn't waste any time in grabbing the fish off the shore and triumphantly trotting it to Epsy. He wanted to show off his catch.
"Feesh yummy!" Zeta purred.
"I'm not eating, Zeta … I'm making a sleeping spot." Epsy dismissed Zeta's catch and went back to tending her nest.
"Feesh yummy?" Zeta stared curiously at Epsy. She didn't turn down food anymore than he did. Epsy darted past Zeta and started pulling at a clump of soft looking ferns.
Zeta considered Epsy for a moment. Maybe he should do what she wanted to do. Zeta tossed the fish and darted after Epsy. The two dice pulled up clumps of leaves and carried them back to the rocks, then went to work on more mud with Epsy showing Zeta what she wanted done.
"Fools." Stealth hissed beneath her breath. She had been watching the pair of them since they had gone into the forest. She had stalked them silently, taking pride in being completely undetected despite her pale fur.
Slowly, she kneaded her claws into the damp earth at her feet. She was angry. Very angry.

Why would Stealth be angry? Because the two of them are getting a family…and she isn’t? 😉

She’s angry because their kid will be killed. That’s also why she’s jealous. They’re totally ignorant of that, and she want a family but knows she can’t have one, while they can just ignore that fact and be happy. She’s both angry at them for bringing something into the world that will be slaughtered, and jealous that she can’t have a kid herself.
