"And there's something else you don't know, Lexx." Riley spoke up. Lexx shifted his attention to him, noting that the cloaked figure standing behind Riley looked vaguely familiar.
He couldn't place the dim features immediately. "many of those orphans are not orphans at all. They are kidnapped or reported as deceased to their families ... like you, Lexx ... and your sisters and brother."
Lexx stared. Did he hear right? Riley had said sisters. Plural. And a brother?
"Your grandparents are still alive. They live on the Lanier estate." Riley continued.
"Riley, why didn't you tell me-" Lexx gasped. That was indeed news. He failed to notice that the 'familiar cloaked figures' eyes had widened as though he were being told this news as well.
"Lexx, if you die," Riley quickly went on. "Your youngest sister will take your place in the game. If you win, she might have a chance at a normal life."
"Riley, you were not supposed to mention-" The cloaked figure abruptly leaned toward Riley and whispered outside of the shared relay so that no-one would overhear.
