“I can’t dream?” Lexx rested his hands on the rim of well that was now before him.

“You can’t dream.”

“I am.”

“Dreams are for the sick and weak.” The reflection sneered, letting the words dig in.

“I am.” Lexx sighed wearily. He looked at the reflection apprehensively, “I want a life of my own. I want to trust,.. I want that one per-”

“You want the impossible!” The surface of the water exploded violently, arcing toward Lexx. “Look what love got your parents! They aren’t here, are they? Chemicals, nothing more. It’s not real!” Lexx recoiled and slipped on the slick floor. “It lies, covers the truth, nobody cares!”
