Chel flailed a moment, trying to keep from getting tangled up in Lexx's wings underwater, then broke the surface gasping for air. She glanced around, urgently calling for Lexx. He was splashing nearby, a slightly fearful look in his eyes. Lexx's wings, weighed down by water, were even more unwieldy in the water than he expected. He had landed facing forward, which was great if he was landing on the ground, but in the water, he couldn't keep his head above water.

Umm can’t he breath in water? like when he caught skate?

He can, but that wouldn’t do Chel any good. He would have to struggle to get back above the water because his wings are just a hassle in it. They slow him down and are very heavy for water since they’re designed for air only.
