Andisel rose from her throne and turned to look out into space. She purposely avoided looking at First as she spoke, denying him the ability to decipher her expressions.
“The longer Lexx stays in The Gauntlet, the better chance has of making it through to the end.” Andisel stated angrily. “Do what you have to. Get your players in to wear him down.”
They’re not very bright. Yes, If Lexx finishes the gauntlet he’ll be free and then attack them legally from the outside (if he can be convinced to do so). But, If Lexx doesn’t succeed, and they continue to fanatically prevent anyone from ever succeeding, then more and more people will see that the fix-is-in and lose interest in watching or participating in the game. And the people that are forced to play will lose what hope they have left and just surrender all the time or start doing stuff like star diving (without safety equipment). While Lexx could be a threat if he wins, he also becomes a symbol for all their pressed players that getting out is possible, so they’ll have something to hope for and will strive all the harder to win.
