Day 24 Part 4 Page 9

“The infected nanites are destroying Lexx’s body and the uninfected ones are healing what is being destroyed in an endless circle,” stated Kade, taking up where his son left off.  “We are slowing down the process by having Lexx rest and providing nutrients to keep the nanites from absorbing his body.” Vic rested his hands on Chel’s shoulders in understanding of everything that was being said and how much his daughter needed someone close to her. Kade finished with a sigh, “He only has days before we must decide to purge his body entirely of nanites or let him die.”

  1. That could work, assuming that flushing nanites out of a person’s system isn’t a physically traumatic process. The human body is capable of healing itself of a lot of damage, if the owner is resilient, and we all know Lexx is.

    1. he has a strong mental will but he also grew up without his body doing any work. he grew up with little machines doing it for his body so his body might not be ready to handle this type of thing. i also forshadow that should they purge him of nanites (and assuming they arent replaced right away) he willtthen hurt himself and freak out as hes used to healing much much faster.

  2. …Could they flush his body of nanites and then put more back in? Or were they specially made & not available?

  3. Chelsea looks like she’s partly in shock.

  4. There has to be a serious downside of purging the Nanites if they haven’t done it yet… I have a bad feeling about this…

  5. I’ve been reading for a long time, but never commented. I thought this might have a non traditional ending from the beginning. But it seems like not. There’s an out now. The nanites will be purged, and everything will be fine.

  6. You have to factor in how the Dice Nanites have altered Lexx’s Physiology as well.

Man this is a sticky wicket you have created Tiff.

  7. This seems like it should be an easy call — if the alternative is death, you purge the nanites.

The question that leaves in my mind, though, is what that would do to Lexx’s status as a Dice. Without nanites, he shouldn’t have Dice abilities. However, he would presumably still be bound by his contract with the ADC. He might still be able to finish the game of collecting his own dice by relying on the abilities of dice he’s already collected (Stealth, etc.). But if he were challenged, seems like he would be in big trouble. Of course, if he’s not actually a dice anymore, I’m not sure what would happen to him if he were defeated — would he just become an ordinary slave?

It might be possible to get around this problem by purging the nanites and then rebonding him with a fresh Master Dice — assuming somebody has one of those available. Then all he would have to worry about is leveling up again.

    1. I’m feeling good that I answer all these things soon. 😀

  8. Nanite checker device, blood. Do something like kidney dialysis — Draw blood, separate all bad nanites out — put blood back with functioning nanites.

  9. What I’m wondering is if they CAN put nanites back in him after they take him out. Is the poison something that’s going to be permanent? For instance, are the unaffected nanites eventually going to become corrupt as well? If they purge him of nanites and put new nanites in, will the poison effect the new nanites? As Shimmerling pointed out above, Lexx is going to be completely borked for the Game if he can never use nanites again.

    1. Not to mention, I get the impression that purging nanites isn’t exactly a cakewalk. I wouldn’t be surprised if that sort of operation had a low survival chance.

      1. Low is WAY better than ‘dead’.

  10. Actually I’m not so sure about what the relationship the dice he’s bound with has on the nanites.

I Remember that he was bound to the dice and injected with nanites separately. So I gather their is a slight difference between the two things.

Though going without nanites is probably out of the question for Lexx. Assuming he will not need them for his dice powers or has two types of nanites, he has been greivsly injured in the past and has relied on them quite a bit. But the thing that makes him a dice has been so heavily ingrained in his body that I doubt he could survive the removal of the dice he’s bound with.

That might explain why they had all that gnarly hardware they were moving in as they left Lexx. Much like some cancerous tissue, not all problems can be serviced by a simple treatment, sometimes you have to remove the effected area.

  11. why the decission, whats the cons of purging his body of nanites

  12. Depending on how small the nanites are a blood-transfusion type purge could be difficult (if the nanites are smaller then what gets filltered). So I’m sticking by my EMP solution. His body will purge them naturaly, then they can fill him with new helpful ones.

  13. Hmmm… do the nanites communicate? How? Would the poisoned nanites communicate? How? Is there a way for a third nanite, perhaps a nanite-killer, to tell the difference?

  14. I’m going to guess that DICE EULA forbids tampering with DICE nanites (theoretically to prevent cheating) without express ADC permission (the dagger/virus is the ADC’s, so they obviously gave permission for that. the jerks). That probably includes stripping the nanites out. If its anything like Earth EULA, violations result in revocation of usage and might require the return of all ADC property…

    1. well they shown that the don’t give a rats ass about th ADC

  15. Okay this can work!! If they just purge him of nanites it won’t kill him, right? And nanites are replaceable. . . . I hope this works the way I think it will.

  16. “We have no record of how to heal” is a plot tease. It would be funny though, if the cure is developed by the same team on Earth trying to reverse-engineer the things. In theory you’d just need a seek-and-kill program for custom nanites. Not exactly risk free though for effectively new technology. (Technically reinvented since it was lost kind of like how European swordmaking is lost)
