Day 26 Part 4 Pg 2

Unknown to Victor, events on Earth had changed considerably in the short time they had been gone.    At that very moment, a mission was being undertaken by the agency that centered on Kane and Korbaen .  The two of them had been up early enough to begin filming at over a dozen talk shows during the day.   Korbaen had proven eager to please and quickly fallen into his role as an excited actor.  Kane on the other hand, was clearly not comfortable with so many cameras on her. Every human they had met had been smiling and poked fun at their realistic makeup, their special need for privacy, and their large entourage of men in black suits complete with stereotypical dark sunglasses.  The agents were enjoying themselves just as much as the aliens, walking around with stoic expressions and running a pool on who would crack a smile first.  So far, Watson was the favorite to lose that bet. Korbaen and Kane had managed to memorize all of the humans’ names they encountered and while the situation was serious, the mood had been lightened primarily by their willingness to cooperate and perpetuate the farce. “No.  We’re not actors.”  Korbaen stated for what was the fourth time that morning.  “We’re real aliens. Our skin is blue and we are not wearing contacts.”  It amused him at how telling the truth as a lie seemed to really amuse the humans.  And he was getting good at delivering the words with the earnestness of a child. “All this to promote a movie?”  The host waved at the pair with a fake grin plastered on his face, which in reality, had more makeup on it than either of his two guests. “It’s a really good movie!”  Kane piped up quickly.  Her nervousness had been poked at several times as a very clever act of someone pretending to be an alien.  She wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, even after she and Korbaen had been given a crash course on movies and actors. “It better be after the panic your prop caused!”  The host laughed it off, referring to their spaceship as an image of it popped up on a screen offstage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Text will arrive over the weekend.  Tornado watches on Monday and Tuesday had me in a panicked state. :/  If I hadn't been able to work in a safe place for a couple of hours, I wouldn't have completed these updates by today.  Still a page to go for next week. - Tiff

  1. Movies… Aliens and movies… Now aliens are staring in Earth movies… I think the circle just became a square.

  2. Heh… and now we get to the classic line: “Yes, you’re gonna need makeup and prosthetics – you’re just not- alien enough.. …and your colour’s gonna clash with the uniforms. ….Not my decision — I wanted to CGI the whole thing.”

  3. I’m reminded of an old Mad Magazine skit… The guy kept acting like he didn’t want to be in the ‘video article’, then when informed it was just a magazine skit he tried to rob the interviewer, multiple times in the skit.

At least we’re past the alien getting shot for saying ‘Klaatu nicto barata’.

    1. Um…no, he was shot for holding out what could theoretically have been a weapon, but was actually a scroll. Klaatu Barata Nicto was the command to tell the robot to go away and not destroy the planet.

  4. If the movie portrays ETs in a positive light and is successful as well, might make revealing the existence of actual ETs go better . . .
(ET=extraterrestrial. “alien” just means “not from here” and also applies to immigrants and tourists from other countries on Earth)

  5. This is sort of like the “good cop, bad cop” routine, except it’s “truthful alien, lying alien; he tells the truth, she says it’s a stunt, and people assume he’s just “staying in character”. No one watching this will know what’s really true, they’ll just assume it’s all part of their stunt.

  6. did i miss something…? what’s with the color change?

  7. Heh, the MiB suits came out. They’re an incredibly powerful tool. It turns out that a “secret” agent being noticed is paradoxically quite useful if you place them right.
