Day 26 Part 5 Page 07

Keith laughed and got up from the table so fast, he hit it with his leg and almost upended Chel’s bowl of soup into her lap. She caught the bowl and shot an annoyed look at Keith. Keith had another egg and was holding it in the air over Swiftpaw’s head. The fox was hopping eagerly on his hind legs, wings flipping and flapping to help maintain his balance. “Jump!” Keith grinned at the winged fox. “He’s not a dog!” Chel snapped as Keith’s hand went up, flicking the half of egg into the air. Swiftpaw sprung after it and caught it neatly in his mouth. He fluttered in the air for a moment, licking his jaws and looking down at Keith for more eggs, his twin tails wagging below him in long twitching arcs that were more feline than canine.

  1. I beg to differ, Swiftpaw is as much a dog as he wants to be. 🙂

  2. Chel is right…. his a Fox XD!

  3. I’m surprised Swiftpaw can lift off like that. A few panels back he was head down in a bowl of food half his size, now he’s begging food from chel … if he keeps it up he’ll roll.

  4. Swiftpaw: No, I’m not: these wings make me much more manoeuverable in the air! Try throwing two at once! *nom*nom* *gulp* Now try three!

  5. I’ve actually gotten cats to play like that when they were begging, it’s not just dogs.
If Chel’s objection is really to treating Swiftpaw like a pet, however, there’s the fact that he actually wants to play to counter it.

    1. Play? I don’t think Swiftpaw cares whether or not he gets to play. Well, at least not as long as he gets the food!

    2. Our cat had several sophisticated games he wanted to play. There was “who can sneak up on who?” – try to sneak up behind the cat and touch him, while he does the same. Watch your shadow, use bare feet, but the cat usually (though not always) wins. He wins by sneaking up behind and batting your leg. He asks to play by batting your legs.

There was “monkey in the middle”. Two humans sit about 12 feet apart with the cat between them. They throw a stuffed animal back and forth, and the cat leaps into the air to snag the flying toy.

      1. Forgot to mention, no treats involved. He simply wanted to play.

  6. For a treat swift will do any trick! ^_^
