“Rumen and I were done with life in space after everything that had happened.” Lessa spoke on with little remorse in her statement. “He took a position here on the Lanier estate as a pilot while I recovered.” Rumen had kept her company when Kade was busy with his duties and she had slowly warmed up to him. He was a good man, just like his brother. He took Lessa out often to help her strengthen her legs in the gardens and while he stood by to catch her if she stumbled, he resisted trying to help her unless she needed it.
“Between Kade and Rumen, I was never alone.” Lessa smiled, remembering that time in the gardens with one or the other always present to a point of annoyance. Kade often took afternoon meals with her and brought her fine foods that would have been considered delicacies in space. She had often found herself wondering why she had ever wanted to leave. “Kade and I had grown up together and it was not a secret how we felt about each other, but we never acted on it.”

It’s always good to have someone around when that sort of thing happens, not that I speak from experience but it is never good to be alone when a traumatic event happens. (on a happier note) Kade looks so happy in that picture I didn’t think I would ever see him so happy. Great artwork!!! I can’t wait for more!!!

When Lessa says “Kade and I had grown up together and it was not a secret how we felt about each other, but we never acted on it.” Is she implying that the two of them had romantic feelings for each other (which would be looked down on because she is a Rishan)? Or that they considered each other as close friends (which would also be looked down on)?
