Hours later, on Earth, Chel stepped off her porch and walked down the walkway that crossed her front yard. Andrea and Kalvin were close behind. All three of them were toting pool gear; towels, gym bags - and a supreme super soaker courtesy of Kalvin. "Have a good time at the pool and enjoy the movie." Victor called out from the doorway. He waved as though this were a normal, everyday occurrence. It was, by all outward appearances, but what was on his mind was anything but normal. This time of year, they had vacation to plan, short notice by the average family's standards, but the majority of families didn't have Vic's connections. "Be back by five!" That would give his team plenty of time to work. "Your mom will be home and we'll be ordering pizza for dinner!" He was expecting her within the hour. Vic watched his children walk down the sidewalk and then out of sight. The surveillance van was still sitting across the street. Vic felt a small twinge of guilt for spying on them. His job and family were never supposed to mix in this way. He had hopes for future involvement. That was the way of his department. They liked to keep things within the family. "I'm going to be gone for a couple of hours," Chel announced as they crossed onto a neighboring block. They only had a couple more blocks to go to get to the pool and Chel figured she had better let someone know what her intentions were. "But I'll be at the pool before noon, okay?" Andrea pursed her lips and scowled. Why did Chel get to go off without telling their parents where she was going? It just wasn't right. Especially since Chel would chew her out if she tried something like that. Sure, Chel didn't tell their parents every detail about the broken window, but she also wasn't going to let Andrea forget about it. "I need to tell Lexx not to come to the house while Mom and Dad are there." Chel ignored the look. She was going to have to come clean about everything soon, but for now, it was best to just keep Lexx away, no matter how much she wanted to see him. "Okay, we'll be fine!" Kalvin didn't mind at all.
