Twenty minutes later, Chel shrieked and darted for the closest patch of grass. She had stepped out of the swirling golden-red light of the Rift’s door directly into a freezing cold stream up to her waist. Her jeans had immediately soaked with the cold water. Epsy was right behind her, but not nearly as bothered by the water.
Lexx sighed and Stealth hissed the moment they came through the door. “Sorry about that, Chel.” Lexx stood in the water, a disgusted look on his face. He was attempting to keep himself as calm and composed as possible. “The door doesn’t always drop us on dry land,… But the dice we’re after should be near.”
Chel shivered in the grass, trying to get warm. She looked up long enough to notice there was something large swimming toward Lexx and Stealth. “There’s something swimming around out there, Lexx,…”
The words had barely escaped from her mouth when a lavender colored creature broke through the surface of the water, splashed water all over Lexx, then dove back under. Chel couldn’t help but laugh as Lexx recoiled in horror, water dripping off his hair and skin. The yellow wrap he’d so carefully arranged over his shoulders to provide some warmth was now seeping with freezing droplets.
“Deuce,.. as if I wasn’t wet enough,…” Lexx sighed in resignation.
