Meanwhile, several galaxies ahead of Damian’s ship, Chel rummaged through a drawer filled with random odds and ends. She had investigated every nook and cranny of the set of rooms that she had been locked inside of with the kids and found nothing of interest. There was no way out. The vent holes were sealed with grates that were seamlessly pressed into the walls and impossible to pry open. The doors leading out were locked. Chel had found two of them. The one she had come through and another that she was informed, was used by cleaning staff. Chel was shadowed on and off by each of the kids, curious about what she was doing, except for Karmine. She had come out of her room for only a moment to retrieve the dataplate she was working on and then vanished again. The boys were chatty and full of questions about Lexx and her world. They had wandered off to their own devices after awhile, leaving only Pitrea. The little girl had followed Chel around like a shadow until vanishing into Karmine’s room a few hours earlier and not coming back. Chel took a break from looking for a way out to staring at the stars for a few hours and thinking about her options. She really didn’t have any. Then, she had another whim and started going through the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen area. It was a small kitchen with the barest of essentials. There was a faucet and a shelf of small cups and plates that looked and felt like some sort of soft plastic. On another shelf, there were small white and blue striped hand towels. The faucet spurted out irregular streams of water that lasted just long enough to fill a cup. Chel had sampled the water and found it very odd to the taste. It was too clean and tasted like nothing. Just wet. But it was something to drink. There were also a shelf with small square packages with colorful images on them that Chel assumed was some sort of food. The drawers held an assortment of interesting devices, but nothing that suited Chel’s needs. There were soft plastic eating utensils, but nothing sharp and that was what she was searching for. “What are you looking for?” Tayne hovered over Chel’s shoulder curiously. “Can we help?” Jayne offered enthusiastically. “Scissors. Something that cuts.” Chel continued going through the drawer, investigating every item. “They don’t allow anything that can be used as a weapon.” Jayne and Tayned stated together. They exchanged an uneasy glance, a little worried about what Chel might be up to.
