“The majority of players enjoy the game.” Maelinn added almost as an afterthought. “But Lexx doesn’t.” Chel was quick to point out. “Lexx’s nature goes against it, but his physical and mental abilities are highly sought after.” Maelinn explained in her quiet way.

  1. How many of those players have a choice in whether or not they play?

  2. And ivory is highly sought after, but the majority of people don’t support killing elephants to get it. >:(

  3. Would those people still enjoy the game if they realized that the ADC was kidnapping a fair ammount of these players from their living families? And how many more players like Lexx simply failed to make it to the Dice Circuit at all? Remember that part of the reason that Lexx has the nanites is that players before him *did* manage to kill themselves. Also, from what I recall of Lexx’s recollections, the ADC training program was very harsh. I wonder how many of the people that felt trapped and hopeless simply…gave up? Around two thousand years ago, gladitorial matches were part of traditional and widely accepted entertainment for a significant proportion of the human race. Does this make it right for people to be pitted against other people or armed soldiers or FREAKIN’ LIONS with nothing but minimal to nonexistant weapons training, a short sword, and the clothes on their back? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Alien Dice *might* be an acceptable pasttime if it was played by *consenting adults* (And not people who have been brainwashed since they were children into thinking that the game was the best thing since sliced bread. I mean people that actually got a chance to have a family, an education, and something resembling a healthy upbringing) and the lifelong-slavery-upon-defeat clauses were taken out. But the way the ADC is running things is just flat-out barbaric. And I’m a bit disappointed that Maelinn, who damn near died and will probably *never* be able to have children because of this game, doesn’t seem to get where Chel is coming from. I think Maelinn’s point is that, from the outside of the game looking in, all the people of her civilization see is a prize athlete in a high-stakes game… but you’d think that in such an advanced society that they must have *SOME* equivalent of a psychiatrist, but why do none of these so-called ‘decent people’ wonder why the ADC hasn’t bothered to get Lexx some help. Chel saw Lexx cutting himself on a galactic feed back when they had that huge fight over the existance of the relay in Chel’s head… which means that everyone else watching saw it, and the ADC isn’t bothering to edit Lexx’s episodes of emotional and mental instability. Why have *none* of these people figured out that something is seriously wrong with the picture that they are seeing? How could *ANYONE* pay serious attention to Lexx’s behavior and think that the game is good for him? Hasn’t it been stated several times that Lexx’s mental condition gets *worse* as he levels? Were none of the viewers paying attention at the end of the last set? Or do they just see him as an actor in their latest reality TV drama? Does no one *care* about what happens to the people around them in the future?

  4. WOW! Wall o’text!
I would have to say that some might notice but most just don’t care.
