The grey waved a hand in the air and a shimmering panel spread out like a wave in front of the surface. It glowed faintly, then undulated into a darker background with what looked like a mesh of red laser light spread over it. First, a resonating chamber is created using millions of nano machines. The view flickered as though it were zooming in on the tiny machines floating in the air in a cloud of spider web thin filaments.

  1. Welcome to the Holodeck.

    This is the Grid

….yeah a Tron Joke ande A Star Tek joke is all I got. Anyone else?

    1. How about “Greeting Earthlings, Nano Nano.”

Although, I do have a technical point to argue.
(Warning: science content). A nanometer is one billionth of a meter. So a million nano-machines would be one millimeter across, making it a very small chamber. So therefore: “I think you’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

      1. Yes, I clicked comments to say just that, and will add that “trillions” is the scale you’re looking for if the nano-machines are sized similarly to human cells (which are, after all, nano-machines).

        1. Maybe they don’t have to be stacked nose to tail? Instead, if the machines and Lexx are in a suspension, the can form a lattice (like the picture hints at) and deftly control electrical impulses (brain or other nanos) over a larger area.

        2. I dunno if I could respect the BEGAs as much if they said “gazillions.” Also, resonance? You trying to take him apart, or what?

      2. nano-machines arent necessarily a nanometer across as you seem to be implying, simply that they are engineered on the nano-scale.

nano machines could easily be the size of a blood cell

      3. if you put those nanites into motion at a high speed, they could be spaced quite a distance from each other, but still form a solid barrier for all intents and purposes, requiring much fewer to achieve the same scale.

  2. Sorry, no jokes here. Although I’m not sure if Syke has a reason for choosing the name “Resonating Chamber,” as that’s a pretty low-tech method of sound amplification using sound-reflective walls which produce standing waves. An example of a resonance chamber is the inside of a hollow guitar body; the sound goes in, bounces around in a specific way, and then comes out louder as a result.

What is being depicted seems more like it could be named a “field-suspended nano-hologram display.” 😉

    1. The Gray may be dumbing down its explanation to where it thinks the barbarians will understand. “Look at the magic box we made. It will let us help Lexx.”

      1. ad as far as we know… so far, He may be showing them whats happening inside the room on a Field Suspended Nano-Hologram Display, or FSN-HD TV for short! 😛 🙂

    2. The nanites in lexx responded to sounds if I recall correctly, a resonating chamber makes a lot of sense in that case.

  3. Oh, I get it.

The only way to kill the bad nanobots is to resonate the techno-whatsis so much that all the bad nanobots are fried.

Well, either that, or this is a way to tap into the control circuitry of Lexx’ nanobots and the bad nanobots AND possibly Lexx’ mind without risking their own nanobots.

    I’m not fully sure.

    1. Don’t forget to also charge the Flux Capacitor, uncouple the Heisenberg Compensators and reverse the polarity on the Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.

      1. And shouldn’t there be something about reading Jaf’fa script upside down?

        1. Wait, wasn’t that “reverse the polarity of the neutron flow”?

And maybe we could offer it a Jelly baby while we’re at it.

  4. What’s the easiest thing you can do to get rid of the bad nanomachines in Lexx?

Destroy them all. the “good” ones, “bad” ones, all of them.

“Nuke ’em from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”

    1. “Good, bad, I’m the one with the nano-gun.”

  5. Nanos are great and all, but if you are going to make something that will require so many and will be used repeatedly, it might just be easier to make one large sized and put it in a small pocket dimension (or store house with a portal if you don’t want to get too fantastic).

  6. I just had a thought…..What are the odds this will Harm either the Bad code or the Imprint of the woman riding with Lexx?

    1. Well, the Bad Code is the product of a glitch in the leveling of Lexx’ ADC nanotech for the game, so it’s likely that its days are numbered.

However, Riane’s Death Cry is is more of an implanted memory from the Relay technology, so she’ll probably be left in Lexx’ head. Considering how she helped suppress Bad Code, I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

  7. I suggest the nanobots are taking apart air and dust and rebuilding it into the HoloGrid, not building it out of themselves. 😉

    1. So they’re making something out of gas and old skin cells? That wont hold together, literally or figuratively. 🙁
