“No one controls the architects.” Kade spoke up, reminding them that he was still in the room with them. “They live by their own rules and it appears they like humans right now.” “Good for us.” Vic stated sarcastically. “I’m not certain of that.” Kade frowned. “They enjoy experiments and I’m sure that’s how they view Lexx. An experiment that helped them.” Chel listened with interest, wondering what it was that Lexx had done to help such an obviously advanced race of aliens. “So are you the only one here who does ask Lexx what he wants?” Vic suddenly asked. Kade hesitated in his answer, looking troubled and a little guilty. “They mean well.” Chel looked away, recalling all the instances she had witnessed of Lexx’s friends and others doing things for him without even asking if he wanted it. The island, friends showing up repeatedly when he didn’t want them around. Lexx was never left with any privacy from anyone and it was because they really cared about him.

  1. And Vic just cut right to one of the issues that Lexx has been having. No one is *asking* Lexx what he wants or providing him with a choice. Well meaning or not, beneficial or not it still hits a nerve and reminds him that for most of his life people choose for him.

And he’s pointing this out to maybe the one ‘adult’ that might actually listen and give him an adult to adult answer rather than dismiss him for being human.

  2. Actually, to this day, Vic has done more “telling Lexx what he (Vic) wants (like Lexx having to put some clothes on before approaching Chel), than asking Lexx, what he (Lexx) wants”, at least iirc.

So atm. his comment is a bit hypocrite, in my eyes…

    1. Never mind, I misread that Vic was saying HE was asking Lexx what he wanted, not Riley.

But Riley has been known to do something to/for Lexx (like the use of anaesthetics when Lexx was “overtraining”, without asking him what he wants, too…

      1. To be fair, he was talking to Kade, not Riley.

        1. Dang, I never can tell those two apart, unless they’re standing right next to each other.
So thanks for pointing that out to me. =)

    2. Yeah, he has. But it was from the perspective of his job and not being personally or emotionally invested in Lexx (other than keeping him away from his daughter).

He’s become more a bit more personally involved- and I think the fact Kade actually *talks* to him helps.

Not saying Vic is not guilty of treating Lexx the same as everyone else he is accusing but he seems to realize just how messed up Lexx’s situation is and reassessing his original stance (or maybe he’s not. Maybe he’ll stick to the ‘humans first before aliens’ mind set).

      1. Vic doesn’t really know Lexx yet. Vic only knows that a strange alien turned up with his daughter and his daughter started acting strange and going off the planet with him.

Vic doesn’t really know Lexx’ full story or of the time that Lexx and Chel have spent together.

They’ll end up with time to hash all the issues out at some point down the road. It won’t be immediate, but Vic’s level headed enough that he’ll sit them down and talk it out with them some day. Or maybe Vic will let himself be forced to sit down and hash it out.

  3. why’s Kade’s hair short im ucrious? i thought htat race (its too early in the mronming to remember what race riley and kade are ) never cut their hair?

  4. I think Vic has some reason for being apprehensive — including about greys. I mean they had specific training for mind blanking near them.

Of course if he ever really gets into trouble he could always drop “The Architects” on the ADC. If he said “the earth was under their protection as sad as that is” the ADC might be a bit ….

  5. “Good for us.” He doesn’t look terribly pleased when he says that, does he?

  6. Um, War? Lexx IS human (geneticly at least)

  7. He is being sarcastic.

    1. Really? I couldn’t tell. 😉

I think they’re curious about a species that *makes new things* and not just recycle or modify existing technology like 99.9999% of the galaxy. (Read: Steal)

It makes sense that if there’s millions of solar systems with life in them, that eventually, most of the obvious technology would already be invented. Think of it as a diminishing returns since it’s easier to just buy or steal technology that fills a niche, regardless if there’s many, many unused ways to do something or way better ways. Reverse-engineering must be a cosy little industry in the AD world’s canon.

  8. Subtle eyebrow lift, deadpan expression…. yeah, that’s definitely worried-sarcasm

  9. This strip makes a lot more sense when you get confirmation in the retroactively added text of previous strips that the Greys *are* experimenting on humans, that they don’t seem to understand the need for anesthetic, and that the reports he’s read were chilling to him.

I wonder what the text will add to this strip when it’s updated…

  10. “After all, they’re not…tame aliens…”
