The evening went on with a lot of laughter that even had Lexx smiling on occasion. Riley really loved kids and making them laugh and spent most of it playing with Maenae. Lexx was a little bit amazed as he observed Maelinn's reactions to Riley and Maenae. She didn't seem like the type to be with Riley.
Maelinn was quiet and discreet about everything. She smiled, but watched more than interacted. It might have been that her clothes were just not made for such roughhousing, but to Lexx, she seemed far too refined and cultured to 'play'.
Interesting. With as active as Riley was and as flirtatious as he tended to be around any pretty female, it just didn't fit. What was there about this strange looking hybrid that Riley liked? She was pretty, somewhat exotic and excessively fine limbed to the point that she looked like she might break if her poise were ever disturbed.
Lexx began to wonder if Riley and Maelinn were going to stay into the night. That just wouldn't do. He didn't want them around later, but he couldn't just 'ask' them to leave. His answer came when Maelinn yawned.
"If you're tired, Maelinn, you can rest in the other bedroom," Lexx invited politely, motioning to one of the doors off the main living area. Riley and Maenae were still very busy playing and occupying themselves.
"Thank you, Lexx," came the polite response from Maelinn. Apparently, they had intended to stay in the suite with Lexx. Change in plans. He would have to wait for more than just Maenae and his dice to fall asleep.
