Stealth padded down the hallway considerably slower than she had been going. Cursing and swearing followed her. Fly was half buried in her mane, his ears still stinging from the verbal barrage. He was trembling a little and his fur was sticking up in all directions.
Stealth turned a corner and sighed at the sight of Drift resting in the middle of the hall.
“Maybe we should wake Drift up and –“ Fly perked up with a suggestion.
“If we wake Drift up, we’ll end up having to share!” Stealth said. “And I doubt he has any idea where that creature went. He is sleeping.”
Stealth walked as quietly as possible around the sleeping mound of fur. “The halls on the sides don’t have any open doors and dead end. I’m going to run down them first and see if he’s in one of them.” The cat stopped when she reached the first door. She lowered her head and shook it to dislodge the squirrel. “You stay here and watch in case he comes out of this hall. We’ll both go down this one if he’s not down the other one.”
