“That’s not the point!” Chel scolded Lexx furiously. “You can’t just throw your life away like it means nothing!”
“But it didn’t mean anything until I fought for you.” Lexx smiled and tried his best to soothe Chel’s anger. It made him feel good that she cared so much to say what she was saying, but didn’t like all the negative energy being aimed at him.
“Don’t ever do it again!” Chel exploded in a fury of arm waving that sent Lexx staggering backward in surprise.

Wow. Chel is being a total and unmitigated bitch here. Lexx was willing to sacrifice himself to save her, and she’s tearing him a new one over it. So she didn’t want to be rescued from being kidnapped and involved by others that particular way… so he’s wrong, and should be cowed by her fury. x.x
He darn well CAN choose to spend his life how he chooses. I think it’s a dumb choice, but it’s his to make. He doesn’t belong to her, and yet is still acting for her betterment… just not in the way she wants him to. Oi vey.

Josh, I don’t think it’s the saving her that’s got her angry. She knew that he was coming. It’s that he was going to let himself get captured or killed if it meant Chel would be safe. She angry that he would do something like that and potentially thinking that his life isn’t worth more.

Is that decision dumb? I think so. But again, it’s his choice to make. She has no right to expect him to save her in the first place, and she has no legitimate claim on his future that he does not choose to give her. So getting mad over the way he chose to try to save her really isn’t remotely reasonable. Nor do I find it sympathetic in the character.
In other words “shut up woman, and let me save you!” 😛 I tease. But really, getting harrangued over being heroic, simply because the target of your affection finds it the “wrong” kind of heroism?
It really doesn’t inspire heroism of any kind.
