Lexx gave Chel a puzzled look. He wasn’t sure how to react as Chel turned away from him, visibly more shaken than he was. “Chel, I wanted you to be safe.” Lexx stated gently. “You wanted me to go home knowing it was my fault you died or were a slave for life?” Chel sniffed. “… no …” Lexx couldn’t hide his shock at the accusation. He had not considered it that way. He just wanted Chel to go home and no longer be a part of the game. It had never occurred to him how she would really feel about it. “Do not ever do that again.” Chel turned back to Lexx, reaching out and resting her hands on his arms. “Promise me.” She looked up through watering eyes, a fact that was not lost on Lexx. He was relieved to see she wasn’t really angry with him and just wanted to move beyond this moment and put it in the past.

  1. wow … trying to be selfless really blew up in his face. I blame it on the type of people he’s met while in the Game. Concern for others doesn’t appear to be a common trait.
Please note that Chel made sure he was okay before she blew up.

    1. It’s complicated. 😉 That’s all I can say. So complicated we are.

  2. Yaknow, it seems to me that Chel is experiencing a lot of guilt over her own failings in this relationship, is upset at herself, and as a result, is taking out that anger on Lexx.

Lexx had all of the moral intent and force necessary to be a good man, and was acting on it. The problem is that he did not have the intelligence, or pragmatism to channel that moral force into the correct actions and results. In that last respect, I agree that Lexx’s upbringing was deficient.

  3. Her behaviour seems pretty normal to me.

  4. Where’d his wings go? Did she make him reroll down to one side? Now THAT’S a scary chick!

    1. They’ve been gone for a while now. The grey reversed all of the programming of Lexx’s nanites that they considered a perversion of their work. He woke up without the wings. Presumibly this means that the reversal of what the ADC did to him includes the wings. I find it likely that they reversed all of the changes related to the game.

      1. No, he still has the wings. He was putting a “capelet” over them before he went to bed. But he and Chel are in the relay now, where each of them appears the way they see themselves in their own heads. That’s why Michelle still has the long braid here, even though she’s cut it off in real life. Apparently Lexx doesn’t think of himself as a guy with wings, so his image in the relay doesn’t have them.

  5. Lexx’s wings never show up in the relay. They aren’t in the same room, they’re talking over the relay.

  6. The art style you use in the very last panel, for Chel, is always awesome 😀 But don’t stop drawing her other ways! Practice practice!
