“Too bad you’re too big to ride on my shoulder now.”  Keith pointed out with a grin.  He immediately regretted pointing that out.  Fly’s head snapped back in shock and then his expression completely melted into sadness. “That’s the problem with growing up.”  Keith reached out to scratch Fly’s head and offer him some comfort. “Tell me about it.”  Fly sighed crumpling down into the grass at Keith’s feet in sadness.  How horrible.  He had to WALK everywhere now.

  1. Aww, talk about heartbroken.
Then again it’s the sad truth.

  2. Aww, poor Fly…having to exert effort now. ;~; I feel for ya buddy, I really do! XD
My gosh he’s absolutely gorgeous. I can’t get over what a drastic change it was!

    1. You know, if Fly had been forced to walk places, that small but cumulative effort might have let him roll sides a long time ago…

  3. Beautiful job capturing a look of absolute depression in panels 2 and 3.

  4. I’m still curious how he’s going to live up to his name in this form. Previously the surface area to mass ratio was a little questionable for more than just gliding. Now, unless those membranes stretch a lot, they’d barely slow his fall.

  5. PWNED! I feel so bad for the not-so-little guy. X_x¡

  6. No more shoulder rides, no more getting lost in Drift’s feathers, no more easy finding of places to hide, but on the bright side, no more fear of being squished by being stepped on, more mass to stand up to bigger dice, more abilities to help Lexx, and possibly the best thing of all, more stomach capacity so he can eat more cookies.

  7. Looks like someone needs to get a backpack or something like that for Fly to ride around in now, now that he’s too big for shoulder rides.

  8. Actually, I would have expected Drift of all dice to have said the ‘Tell me about it’ part. Fly’s latest change is not nearly as drastic as Drift’s last one… must be hella-hard for the poor fluffball to play DDR now. 😀

  9. The comic is cute, the text is even cuter and funnier. 🙂

I’d say one of the problems with being a Die is that the ‘growing up’ is sudden, so you don’t even have the chance to get used to a change as it goes along, happening gradually.

  10. Noo, it reminds me of when I got too big to ride on my dad’s shoulders. The view up there was great.

  11. @ Fly: 🙁 At least you’re not a new college student being blown away by, well… college. Not riding on shoulders isn’t too bad, you can still get piggy back rides. AND you can now flick your tail in Stealth’s face like Energy.

(I know Energy’s name I just forgot how to spell it.)

  12. That has to be the best kicked puppy look I’ve seen in a while.
Now you have to WALK everywhere, Fly. Oh the tragedy.
And, yeah, growing up sucks at the best of times.

  13. I almost cried! Poor fly!
    P.S. I believe it’s spelled… wow, I don’t remember either! Cyrius?

  14. I bet Stealth will be happy, now that fly can’t ride on Chelsea’s shoulders.

  15. P.S. Its Sirius, the name come from the brightest star in the night sky. It’s also appropriately enough known as the “dog star” for reasons I can’t quite recall.

  16. ? Looks like he’s no heavier than a python, and you could still wrap him around your neck with that long lithe body? eh of course, that could just be that I’m used to toting heftier critters.

  17. Inquisitive Raven

@ Aelfinn: Because it’s part of the constellation Canis Major.

  18. His body’s roughly the size of Kieth’s! Much too big for shoulder-sitting.

  19. he can sit on my shoulder!! poor little cutie!
i may not be able to stand, but hes welcome to claim a spot.

  20. Looks like more then triple in size to me, but less then quadruple. I didn’t think the size change commentaries from El Goonish Shive would ever help me with anything. 😛

    1. I did not realize this site has Emoji conversion. I actually much prefer the text version of that one to the graphic version.
