“We’re here.” Keith turned into the driveway that led to his house, grateful for an excuse to end their current conversation. “It won’t take long and I’ll have my mom watch her this time.”
Keith and Chel walked around the family sedan parked in the driveway and on up to the front door. The door was unlocked and the reason why was immediately behind the door. A pair of huge German Shepherds greeted Chel and Keith with lolling tongues and wagging tails. One was average shepherd coloring, the other was solid black with crystal clear blue eyes.
Keith closed the door and dumped Chalupa onto the floor in front of the dogs. She landed on her feet and chirped at the dogs fearlessly. The black and brown shepherd immediately slinked away with his tail between his legs. The black one licked Chalupa playfully.
“Good girl.” Keith grinned patting the shepherd on the head.
“What’s wrong with Hershey?” Chel stared after the retreating shepherd.
“He was bullying Chalupa and got bit.” Keith shrugged in response. “I’m going to get my mom, mind waiting here with Chalupa?”
“Uhh… okay.” Chel nodded uncertainly.
Outside, the bird was transmitting its feed of the front porch and doorway. It could not go any further.
“Target temporarily out of sight, but likely to return to point of origin.” The communiqué echoed over First’s receiver. “Unfortunately, two of Lexx’s dice are present. We will have to take out two recorders.”
“You have clearance to cause a ‘major malfunction’.” First smiled as he delivered his orders. This was, so far, the easiest trap he’d ever set.
