“They chose him. Why?” The same question Zaile had asked a million times before was asked yet again. He stared down into the glass on the table before him. He had drunk through a bottle and a half of a very expensive wine. It had not been worth it. He still didn’t have an answer to his question. “He’s so pathetic.” “Zaile?” Zaile sighed at the voice calling to him. It was Maelinn. She was free to come and go as she pleased anywhere in the ship. Now, Zaile wished he had at least barred her from his favorite deck to be alone on. “Zaile … I’m worried about you.” Maelinn stood behind Zaile in one of her golden gowns. One of the many that Zaile had purchased for her over the years. Zaile cringed. He did not want to talk to Maelinn. “You have Riley now. Worry about him.” Zaile stated dismissively, hoping that she would just leave, but knowing that was a vain hope.
