“Taum, Rume, please ask your grandparents if we may come inside.”  Caillem walked up to the two boys, who abruptly stopped their playing and turned to look at the newcomers.  The boy with the white hair immediately turned and ran down a flight of stairs into a hall. Chel glanced down after him, knowing she was likely going to walk down there as well in a few minutes.  It was brighter in color than she expected and well lit.  She also saw a very small creature walking in the hall at the bottom of the steps that looked a lot like a small version of Zeta.

  1. OMG IT’S TEXT!!!

  2. It looks like “a small version of Zeta” huh? Anybody want to start a betting pool on whether or not that one of Zeta and Epsy’s chicks?

  3. Yay! Confusion and cynism dropping rapidly! Text is awesome.

  4. Hmmm, long time reader but I don’t comment often. I’m also not sure what name I’ve used for past comments (3 of them maybe?). Was reading through the text though and I’ve now got this nagging bit of dread.

The children are dice. One of the budgie otters mentioned Trasik wanted the rishan girl for Lexx. My first thought, before finding out the children were dice, was that she was somehow going to be company for Lexx if Trasik defeats him. Now I’m wondering though, is she maybe going to make Lexx fight a little girl rishan?

He’s had to fight a rishan before, but she was an adult and expressed that she’d rather die than continue as a slave. This is a child. Maybe my mind is just exceptionally dark and that’s not where this is going, but the idea freaks me out, especially since Trasik doesn’t see any of them as people. I could easily see her doing something like. She’s already been playing head games and that would be a terrible one.

    1. *Long, slow blink of horror* Oh. My. Gawd… That is the most horrable, EVIL bit of spec I have ever read. …and the Missbegotten Hellspawn would do it, too.

Before your comment, I wanted Riley to do a bet with her for her position of power in the family. Trasik, as first born female, is third in power, just under their parrents, with Mommy having the most athority. Riley is on the other end of the spectrum, being born last, and male. Having her being knocked from top floor down to bottom rung appealed to me. Now I just want someone to give her lead poisoning through the back of the head before she can do any more damage.

    2. I… that…

OK, that IS a very dark thought. However, there are three things that make me doubt that that will happen.

3: Trasik is desperate to capture Lexx, so decreasing the likelihood of victory by using a child instead of an adult person or a creature die is highly unlikely.

2: The Rishan that Lexx fought was young, but the youngest we’ve seen enslaved dice as players has been mid teens at the earliest. If that. The ADC probably strictly enforces a minimum age limit for entering enslaved dice into combat.

I think Trasik is more likely to use a more experienced die/slave that Lexx knows, or a better researched dangerous critter based die, or herself as her combatant than to us

1: I don’t think Tiff is going to add something THAT dark to the story. I won’t deny that it (or something similar) is possible, especially given Trasik’s track record.

Of course, that doesn’t change the fact that Tiff HAS warned us that someone WILL die during this storyline of Alien Dice. And the only catch is that that person will not be Lexx or Chel.

      1. In response to #3, I think if she tried this as a strategy it would be because she didn’t think Lexx would be willing to fight and possibly kill a child, especially with Chel watching. That may be giving her more credit than she deserves though. In the past she’s been manipulative but in very obvious, almost juvenile ways. Something like this would be more of a psychological play than she may be able to come up with.

In response to your other two points, those are pretty close to the same arguments against it that I considered. I don’t remember if anything has been mentioned about an age limit for active game play but I’ve sort of always assumed there was. And while this is a very dark story sometimes, I don’t think it’s ever gotten quite that dark. Tiff has always managed to keep the story from feeling oppressive and hopeless even at it’s worst. Something like killing off a child might be out of balance with that constant feeling of “Yes, this looks bad but it’s going to have a happy ending, right? Tiff wouldn’t let it not have a happy ending,” that it’s maintained thus far.

  5. I highly doubt it’s Zeta’s baby. Even if it’s been long enough for the eggs to hatch, I believe they’re still back on Earth or on Riley’s ship (I can’t remember at the moment.) Besides, if they had hatched and been sold as pets, how would people living in the ‘servant quadrant’ afford them? You know anything with Lexx’s name attached to it would go for big money in this universe.

@Jess – My immediate thought when it was mentioned the girl is ‘for Lexx’ was she was meant as a mate. I wouldn’t discount your possibility, but I also wouldn’t put it past Trasik to have a Rishan/Dice breeding program.

  6. I think Trasik wants to use Lexx in a dice breeding pool. You gotta remember that to the players of the game, Lexx is just another animal. He’s no different the the other beastly dice, and many of those dice are bred because their offspring are sold for a lot of money and are very popular.

If thats so, Trasik would want Lexx as a sort of “champion stud” for breeding purposes. He’s very popular in the AD world, so his children would probably be well sought after dice.

  7. A mini Zeta, eh? Actually the first thing I thought of when I saw it was of a Mars Djinni from Golden Sun. XD; Silly brain.

    1. O.O Your right it DOSE look like a Mars Djinni! I missed that because I was distracted by its cuteness. 🙂 Golden Sun rocks and its puzzles rival those of LOZ.

    2. It’s probably a non-dice example of Zeta’s base form.

  8. Because of that I’m going to call it Mars. Who, by the way, can’t be Epsy and Zeta’s chick because it’s only been a day or so since Chel was kidnapped. 😉

    1. no time laps has been specifyed sence her kidnaping so no it has not nesicerly ben only a day sence the kidnapping.

      1. Did you not notice the title pages that kept saying day ##.3 and so on until it got to ##.8 or so, and I’m pretty sure the last title page said that only one day had passed. Besides they wouldn’t put the chicks up for sail that’s one of the reasons Keith came.

  9. I still think Trasik is going to attune Chel and use Chel against Lexx.

  10. Grandparents…? Didn’t Riley say Lexx’s grandparents were alive? It would be utterly ironic if these two were his little brothers. I mean, they look so insanely similar to both Lexx and Zaile. (That’s his name, right? With the white hair?) It seems very unlikely, considering both of Lexx’s parents were killed when he was young…perhaps nephews or something?
