The door formed in an empty hallway, filling it with light. Mel stepped through it first, and Vic followed close behind, glancing down the dim hall. It was an abandoned area of their facility, close to the rooms where they had held Lexx. He would have seen them in passing.
Vic reached into his pocket and pulled out a small remote. He turned, offering it to his wife. “Kade gave this to me for the return door.” Mel took it and dropped it into her pocket. “If the unforeseen happens, you know what to do.”
“I do,” said Mel in a low, serious tone. “Let’s go.” She turned away, and they walked off in different directions.
