Lexx caught a glimpse of his dice splashing out of the shallows and onto the beach. Serenity and Pyre, a large bird-like dice reminiscent of Drift, shook the water from their fur and feathers. Not far away, Tairin’s wolf dice bounded up the beach toward them. One glowed with a brilliant internal light, and the other was filled with a strange swirling darkness, like it was made of smoke. Tairin’s dice picked up speed, snarling as they charged at Serenity and Pyre. Serenity whirled around, jaws open to meet the illuminated wolf creature as Pyre reared and screeched, spreading his wings to fly at the smoke-wolf. They collided in an explosion of sand and snarls, fighting to get a bite in before they were bitten or clawed. Pyre wrapped his forelegs around the smoke wolf and burst into flames, holding tight as it screeched and thrashed. Even though it appeared to be made out of a swirling haze, it had a solid body beneath the wisping tendrils.
