Serenity snarled, slamming her opponent into the sand and rolling it as it scrabbled through her thick fur, raking its short claws in an effort to reach flesh. Pyre released the smoke wolf, and it squealed, fleeing from his grasp with flames rippling over its body. The light wolf glanced after its partner and, with a growl, flexed its forepaws, kicking with its hind legs, trying to get Serenity off. She responded by arching her back, easily able to avoid the blows. She didn’t see the light wolf’s claws extend, lengthening to three times their original size. This time when the wolf struck, its claws sank through fur and sank into flesh, ripping through skin and muscle. Serenity wailed, leaping backward as Pyre moved in for the attack, slamming into the light wolf and barreling it into the sand.
