"Lexx, what's wrong?"  The fact that Lexx was leaning over a pillow… against the couch sent red flags up in Chel's head.  She also noticed that the cushions on the couch seemed to have been chewed on in places. ".. I don't know,…"  Lexx responded with a whimper.  "My back really hurts,…"  Finally.  He really wanted some sympathy and started milking it for all it was worth with his tone.  Besides, she could also help him.  Lexx squeezed the pillow and forced himself to turn his head toward Chel.  That was the least of his pains.  'Chel is here!  Good!  Maybe she can help me get to the main computer and find out what's wrong with me.' Chel walked across the room, noticing immediately that Lexx's back was mottled and looked bruised.  So did his wings.  "I need you to help me to the main computer console,"  Lexx stated, not looking forward to moving.  "I need to find out what's wrong.  I might be ill… maybe you shouldn't touch me."  He added after a moment, wondering if what he had might be contagious or some toxin that could hurt Chel. "Lexx,…"  Before he could say anything more, Chel had reached out and waved her hand over his back, then pressed her fingertips on his shoulder lightly. "Arrrrgh!!  Don't touch!!"  Lexx lurched violently forward, only causing himself more pain. "You're sunburned!"  Chel said incredulously.  It was obvious.  She could feel the light aura of heat with her hand, his back looked bruised because it was blistering and well,… they had been outside for a long time the day before.  Immediately, she felt bad about Lexx's condition.  He had been shading her. "Sunburned??"  Lexx winced, grinding his jaw in an effort to ignore the pain. "Yeah,… yesterday we were out in the sun for hours!"  Chel studied Lexx's back.  The really bad areas were on Lexx's shoulders, upper back and the top of the right wing.  It really had to hurt.  "Haven't you ever been sunburned?" "No,"  grated Lexx in mild annoyance, "I think I'd remember this if I had been." "I'll be right back, Lexx,…"  Chel stepped away, trying to remember if they had anything in the house for sunburn.  She hadn't had a sunburn in years. Surely they had something on hand, hopefully a nice big bottle of aloe vera.  "Maybe I can make you feel better." Lexx sighed, listening to Chel leave.  He was unsure about her diagnosis, but maybe she was right.  He didn't have anything to lose.  The nanites were just moving around sending confused signals to each other.  Lexx could access their schematics on his own body and they weren't responding to his own queries to stop the pain.

  1. He can withstand any battle, endure any injury…but he crumbles under the pain of a sunburn…God save us, if he ever catches the flu!

No, really, sunburns hurt like crazy…though that the Nanites don’t consider the burnt tissue as ‘injury’ is quite puzzling…after all, it is an injury of the largest organ of the body. It may well lead to skin cancer. How’d the Nanites like that?

    1. They’d probably just kill the offending cells before it got out of hand.

    2. They do recognize it as an injury, remember? They just don’t care about this one, because it’ll clear up on its own or something.
