Chel picked up the dataplate and turned it on. She stared at her reflection on the screen a moment before it flickered on with readouts in an alien language. Then it transitioned to the base screen.
"Give me a moment, Chel. I have to tune to the right frequency," Kip hovered up to the top of the plate and balanced himself on the edge. The two long extensions that ran from his head waved in the air as though testing it.
"What are you doing?" Chel observed curiously.
"Tuning. Can't you tell? Now Shhh… it's difficult to get a good signal with all your airwave clutter. Your kind's use of radio and satellite is so wasteful. It's not nearly as efficient or strong as subspace and light transmission."

Oh hush you. We don’t know about subspace yet, and our laser communications are in their infancy. Our ‘free’ ones anyway, we’ve gotten decent at fiber optics.

our fiberoptics use is really good we just don’t use what we have available.
