"You know, Riley…"  Zaile casually leaned back in his chair, looking evenly at Riley.  "As far as -I- was to know, there was nothing between you and Maelinn.  I was just being thoughtful in arranging a companion for you.  Mixed blood of course, since you like that.  And she's young.  Therefore, no error on my part."  Zaile paused to let the words fully sink in.  "Now … perhaps if you and Maelinn had been honest with me from the beginning, we would not be having this conversation, would we?" "I love Maelinn,"  Riley only had one response.  His anger had turned quickly toward salvaging the situation.  Zaile had set this up.

  1. Yup, and Riley totally fell for it. Really, when Maelinn was mentioned, Riley’s alarm bells should’ve given off a concert…but yeah, there’s this thing about anger being an excellent motor…but a miserable driver.

  2. Notice how the woman behind his is blushing, like she might have actually wanted him.

    1. I thought she was blushing because this situation is making her uncomfortable.

      1. I take it to mean she is a timid, humiliated little creature who needs a hug and to be shown lots of kindness.
