Elsewhere on the ship, Keith was sitting up on a soft clinical chair in what Zaile referred to as a ‘clean room’. There were no doctors, just Zaile and Keith. “That’s it?” Keith sat up, rubbing his left ear. He was feeling a strong mixture of excitement and dread at what had just happened.
Zaile had explained the process and was discarding the relay packaging without any concern or emotion that Keith could observe. Knowing that Chel had one had been enough to make Keith a willing subject when the technology was offered.
“It is a simple process. I obtained my own recently.” Zaile turned back to Keith.
“How do I know it works?” Keith wrinkled his nose and scrunched up his face, trying to see if he could feel anything. “Right now my head feels a little cold.” It was an odd sensation, a cool prickling feel that tingled and tickled through Keith’s head. It wasn’t unpleasant, just odd.
“I will walk you through it in a moment.” Zaile gestured to the chair. “Remain seated and relax.”
Keith leaned back into the soft cushion, staring up at the ceiling for a moment. The chair was relaxing. The cushion was soft and comfortably warm. He stared up at the ceiling, studying the minute designs in the long tiles and wondering how they were fixed into place. Then he blinked and saw something flash before his eyes. Keith opened his eyes and felt as though the room was beginning to melt away.
“I’m seeing things.” Keith stated, unsure of how to take the shapes making their way into reality as he willed them to appear.
“Yes, that is the relay beginning the activation sequence.” Zaile shrugged. “You will only have short distance capability at first.”

Pitch in on the Indiegogo!
Also, a bunch more text has been updated starting from here! I'm almost CURRENT!!
So, on Saturday, I had a dental visit for routine cleaning and Xrays. (I haven't had dental insurance for awhile.) I was asked if I had had periodontal disease in the past. I did... five years ago when the dentist told me that all my teeth needed to be removed. He fixed the periodontal disease, but I have massive bone loss and apparently the only thing that's holding my teeth in is tarter below the gum line. :P I have DEEP pockets around my teeth, even though my gums are nice and healthy pink. The bone beneath on the other hand... 50%-75% gone. Lots of plates and partials in my family... and to top it off, they're just now finding out that oh, people who were born prematurely (I was a month early) have lifelong dental FUN. My teeth were very small to begin with, not much bigger than baby teeth.
After insurance, it's only $1,800 for everything. I say, it's only... because I was fearing something more like $5K-$6K. I don't intend to start on this until June. I kinda need a couple of months to get over the horror of having all my teeth removed and having to wear full dentures. I've never actually HAD to have anything more than wisdom teeth removed or worked on. :( No cavities, no fillings, no root canals. I'm reading that this might improve other areas of my health, so it's not all bad.
This means that some of the funds in the Indiegogo will go to this. I'm sure I'm ok for a few months, but I do realize that the longer I put this off, the more I risk getting a serious infection in my mouth that could do far more damage. This shouldn't affect my ability to work a lot. They're going to take my teeth out in two appointments, first the molars - and I've had wisdom teeth out, so I assume it's similar to that, then the rest of them. Sadly... I have all 32 teeth still in my mouth. :D That's a sad thing to say. :D

Finally caught up! My archive binge is complete! This is such a good comic! Also, a small nitpick, but there seems to be a little problem with the text in the third panel.
TomRedlion
Probably just the divider between panels 3 and 4. Divider likely went in after the text.

– “I’m seeing Claudia. Why am I seeing Claudia?”
– “Claudia… Stop that!”
– “Shan’t! …Oh, oops! *giggle*”
– “Eeeeek!” >:=)>

/facepalm Zaile you have no idea what you’ve done.
O.B. Juan
And his first message is:
“Greetings. I am the deposed leader of Glaxnor 7 and I need to transfer my vast fortune off planet. If you give me your bank account number I will transfer the funds through your account and let you keep a small percent as payment for assisting me in this effort. “
Frith Ra
Forgetting to mention that the monetary unit of Glaxnor 7 is used corncobs & clay tokens. So that even if he was on the up & up ….. 😀
Sabreur
Welp. This was probably a bad idea.
TomRedlion
I agree. his was, most likely, a _MONUMENTALLY__BAD_ idea.

Nonsense! What could possible go wrong with a piece of alien tech permanently bonded to the brain of a person who doesn’t understand how or why it works? Everything will be perfectly fine. It’s not like he’s a security risk, now that he has a way to transmit classified files to unidentifiable recipients without detection. He’s part of the team, you know. Interns are valued and respected members of any organization.

I do kinda love how Zaile doesn’t bother asking if he’s sure. He’s all “Yeah, sure. That’s cool. Come on into my back room, and I can hook you up, man.”
Zaile may have ruined Keith’s life by not thinking this through, but Keith comes across as dangerously foolish. If this ruins his career, he kinda has it coming.
nesu42
It may be a bad idea, but it’s gotta be more convenient than a cellphone once you get the hang of it . . .
Spikes
Well yeah it would be convenient. But remember you can get a “call” any time.
Picture this scenario. Your having some “alone time” with the one you love. Then lets say a sibling or your best friend calls. Once they realize what your doing they start giving “tips/advice”.
Like Zaile said it can be quite annoying.

The real problem comes in that if/when the aliens leave there will be only 2 people on earth who can send and receive relay messages.
…also there was hinted/flat out stated that the chance for error was minimal after Chel received her relay. I doubt the trauma conga line will extend to the local idiot but the possiability is there.

oh JOY, that explains why my teeth have always been bad. i was 3 weeks early. ive always had caveties, ive had to have 3 central molars one on each quadrant removed, and going to need the 4th central quadrant molar removed as well. leaving no bite serface. yay. ive had gingi treated once before, but it’s reverted im sure cuz my teeth are sensative again. >_<
why do dental premiums have to be… so… LOW. 1500-1800 is NOT enough. it should be 2500 minimum for dependants! and personally i think it shold cover anasthetic, and not just hte local shit that dont work. i mean the "put me under and fix my teeth" kind 😛

Jeez, Tiff, I hope it all goes okay. I can say from experience that bad infections in the mouth are a horror, so I hope you can avoid that bit at least. I remember having my impacted wisdom teeth out was hell, but ONLY because they were impacted because they had to drill through my jawbone to remove them. I’m sorry, though, to hear this has to happen and I hope it all goes smoothly and that there will be the upside of improving your overall health… will be praying for you!
dlenn
ooooo Good luck with the teeth. Should be worth it if it helps with health etc. But a scary thought. I know people who have had all their teeth out and seem to get on well.
