“You never asked your parents to go sasquatch hunting or look for UFOs.” Keith pointed out with a good natured grin.
“I never believed any of it was real.” Chel shrugged.
“I’ve known about it since I was 16.” Keith rolled his spoon absentmindedly between his fingers. “All that stuff our parents had us doing, the camping, random lessons with weapons, weird questions during paranormal tv shows, were testing us to see if we were interested.”
“I never believed it was real and only wanted to study real things.” Chel let the realization sink in and it hit hard. “If they had just told me.”
“First, you would have thought they were crazy, and this is a secret. I was going to introduce you to Chalupa.”
“That would have done it, Keith.” Chel nodded slowly, ignoring her own food. This was the first time she’d been alone with Keith since they had arrived back on Earth and could talk freely with him.
“Different departments do different things.” Keith seemed almost giddy to discuss ERA. “Most of our resources are spent on crypto zoological populations.”

Completely understand Chel’s position: being able to see a cryptid and proof that it isn’t just a mutation of a known creature would be the only way to convince me.

i would probably still blame monsanto to be honest.

The creation of something like our little Chupacabra via current GM methods is impossible. The most we can reliably manage right now is a little tinkering with basic biochem processes. I wish we could do something of the sort (and that someone more ethical than Monsanto held the reigns)

Men in Black, zoo keepers to alien life forms. 🙂

Man, the stress of keeping something awesome like this secret must have been hell on Keith.

Even knowing what it means, “cryptozoological” is a word that makes you look twice at the person saying it.
