Day 27 5 18

“No, you don’t,” countered Mel with an encouraging smile. “You’re just upset that Chel had no idea what she was getting into.” Vic scowled. “Chel hasn’t had a moment to realize her plans for college are gone. No matter what happens, she’s not going to have any freedom.”

  1. No offense, Tiff, but I think I’m getting this the wrong way. It almost sounds as if the ERA restricts the freedoms of people who have been involved with any kind of alien.

And that would make them assholes. But wait! These people are literally our national legal authority on such matters. As such, they must have every legal right to abduct those who disagree and imprison them without trial!

That’s sarcasm, of course, but Chel is unofficially a potential enemy of the state, and she will be watched every second of every day. She is allowed no personal freedoms, and she probably won’t even be allowed internet. No outgoing transmissions of any kind.

Normally, I tend to advocate peaceful solutions, but this is a situation where Chel has every right to use violence as a responcse to this. In fact, being imprisoned without a trial is exactly the type of thing America was founded against. If diplomacy fails, force is required.

Hire some capes, wipe out the ERA, and send a message by going public with everything. If someone starts a fight, never escalate without a plan, and utterly destroying them and everything they hope to do is a good way to do it.

    1. You must be thrilled with the Patriot Act and NDAA.

      1. Who isn’t?

  2. *Ppssssst, Riley, this is where you and Damien help everyone involved run away to a distant Earth-like planet to keep ERA from finding them.*

    1. Nah. Just ask Lexx to have the architects “speak” to the leaders of the ERA. You know, to set em straight.

      1. I’m not sure the problem is the ERA. I’m more worried about what stupid, angry people will do when they find out that aliens exist. Especially given the problems we have with things like race issues.

  3. How do you restrict someone who can pop up to Lexx’s ship at any time and motor out? I mean Chel could go to school at Alien U and learn 50 times as much as any terrestrial college could teach her.

    1. I suspect that’s what the solution to the problem will be. I think Vic is more worried about Chel’s safety than he is about the knowledge of aliens going public.

Keep in mind, our first contact with aliens was aliens abducting a bunch of humans in order to create a slave race. Lots of people aren’t going to be happy when the knowledge finally goes public, and that could put Chel in considerable danger.

  4. Why? Whyyyyy????

    Honestly… Just.. Grr.

The cats is ou of the bag now, vic. Aliens exist and people are going to find out. Besides it’s not like anyone is going to mind, likely everyone’s gonna be thrilled. There is no use keeping Chexx contained, Lexx could leave whenever he wanted and he’s only staying becuase of chel who is only staying becuase of Vic and Mel and everyone. And since Vic is obviously not as high up as he thought, he isn’t even the one keeping Lexx under constant surveillance, that sounds like the choice of the higher ups to me. Once chel realised that by leaving she’s not undermining her dad, she’s gonna leave. And then Lexx will too. And whoop de do, can’t wait to see how mustache man maintains face for the government then.

    1. Not everyone is going to be thrilled.

Let’s say that 99% of humanity is totally cool with aliens. 1% of 7 billion people is still 70 million people. Based on the fact that we are still dealing with race issues, I’d say 99% is a bit overly optimistic.

It’s the same reason presidents and ex-presidents have secret service guards. Even if most people love them (or only hate them enough to vote against them), in a population of millions of people there’s always somebody angry and crazy enough to try to kill them.

Chel’s freedom is going to be restricted no matter what the authorities do because she’s going to be a target for any nutjob wanting to blame the worlds’ problems on aliens and their “collaborators”. Our world’s first contact with aliens was aliens abducting a bunch of people and turning them into a slave race, so there’s plenty of fodder to keep people angry.

Vic is just realizing that his daughter is in a dangerous position, and he’s not happy about it.

      1. If I could give you stars I would. I was just letting the scene play out. This is Vic ‘seeing’ the future, and the dangers Chel can’t begin to imagine. NOT from ERA, which will be doing its best to protect her and keep her and the related aliens safe, but crazy humans. 😀

    2. While chel could be in danger that in no way justifies keeping her and Lexx completely under control “Truman show” style. Besides chel is already known by almost the rest of the universe and has handled herself well enough by just skippin’ through portals and (hopefully) evolving into a badass. The human government is a very small voice in the universal government, once things get public things will likely merge Star Wars style. It’s not perfect, but it’s a mess that would give Chexx a better chance then being restrained in a small facility on a small planet centuries behind the rest of the universe technologically. Honestly that’s a sitting duck situation. And while I sort of get tiffs direction (as far as I know) where Chexx stays on earth and helps with the darkest circles of government.. When aliens come into play, there won’t be an earth government. Earth and humans will blend into the culture that Lexx grew up with, hopefully making it a little better.
