Silently, Chel stepped forward and slid her arms under Lexx's. She leaned her head against his chest and sighed. Lexx went rigid for a moment at the sudden unexpected gesture, but he did not move to push Chel away. "I - Chel, don't do that ..." He mumbled. "Things will get better, I'm-" Chel said. She didn't get to finish her sentence. "CHEL!" A male voice echoed across the roof of the building. Lexx and Chel had been so preoccupied, they had not heard the almost silent whirring of helicopter blades and the light thump of a ladder being uncoiled. A spotlight splashed over Lexx and Chel's frozen expressions of disbelief and shock. "Chel, step away from the alien." The dark figure shouted across the rooftop. The spotlight lit his form for a moment, then steadied back to Lexx and Chel. "YOU - stay right there!" The man added toward Lexx. The moment of illumination and familiar voice made Chel's body feel suddenly frigid. "Errr... Dirk?" She gasped staring in his direction. Lexx slipped one arm around Chel, pulling her protectively toward him. "Way to go, Romeo, the Damsel in Distress has a more shocked look than the ogre." A cynical sounding female voice came from the ladder that was gently swaying behind the young man. Chel could barely make out her form against the dark night, especially not with the spotlight still blaring in her face. "Oh, shaddup, Illysa!" Yes. It was Dirk. Chel stared at him, amazed at seeing him. But there was something that amazed her more than that. He was dressed in a strange looking black and grey coat and had a strap leading to something that looked suspiciously like a gun. 'What's my ex-boyfriend doing here ... how?!' Chel glanced up at Lexx and back at Dirk. This was a nasty situation all the way around and one in which she was almost as confused and startled as Lexx. Lexx slid a foot back. The ledge was right behind them. All he had to do was drop off the side. They were high enough up that he would be able to glide to the street below and choose a better jumping point to escape. He pulled Chel with him, not about to leave her on the roof. Dirk slowly walked forward, his stride purposeful and blue eyes fixated on Chel and Lexx.
The Wallpaper War has commenced! You can cast your monetary votes toward either having Lexx captured and chained down by or he can escape! What will you choose to do to our poor Rishan? (Check the website for the Wallpaper War info/graphic.)

  1. APRIL FOOLS! Seriously though, this got me the first time around.

  2. Not only did this fool me the first time, but it flows with the story very nicely. Could have been a decent plot twist point.

  3. Well, that would’ve fit in really nice, alright. Though that her ex is also a member of the MIB was a bit far fetched. Especially, since NOBODY from the MIB supposedly knew that Chel was the daughter of Victor (or rather, that Chel existed). Well, one would expect, that ‘Dirk’ would recognize his superior when he comes for dinner 😛

  4. I’ve read this comic five times and this dumb April Fools post STILL gets me!

    1. You know, someday I need to add those two characters in. 😉

  5. Ha, I didn’t realize it was an April Fool until I read the comments, but I’m relieved. I was having severe problems with “the almost silent whirring of helicopter blades” — no helicopter in the world is that quiet!

  6. Excellently executed April Fools Joke!
