"I feel so weird. She really loves me and I was so cruel … she could have been hurt. I feel so ill …" Lexx frowned. He couldn't explain what he felt, only a strong desire to keep Maenae in his sight. The very thought of her being alone even in that space station was painful. He had been alone. He had been alone for a very long time when he was a child. And what had he done? He had left Maenae by herself and she wasn't supervised properly. She had come looking for him not even thinking or knowing the dangers of such a journey.
"That can wait." Lexx set Maenae on her feet and waved at Riley and Torin. He turned his back to them and took Maenae's hand. "I want to show you the island, Maenae …." Lexx spoke gently. "It's going to be home." And he led the little girl down the hallway with a big smile on his face.
