Stealth tried to hold onto the hood, but with the suddenness of the vehicle accelerating backward, she was forced to let go.  The moment she vanished below the hood, the driver jerked the wheel over, shifted into drive and sped off leaving a good deal of rubber on the road.  Stealth leapt aside, snarling and almost contemplated going after it, until common sense and the sound of Chel's voice brought her roughly back to her senses. "STEALTH!!"  Chel screamed, unable to see her cat.  The vehicle that had been behind the truck honked its horn, probably trying to warn Stealth off the road.  Stealth glanced at the vehicle.  She was just out of the range of its headlights and she realized just how lucky she was. Stealth's body hurt all over, her ribs hurt, but a quick check ascertained that while she had some internal injuries, they were not immediately life threatening.  Most of the blood on her body was from hitting the rough pavement. Her right shoulder and leg on the other hand, were bleeding freely from a series of gashes.  Nothing was broken.  Stealth decided it would be best to go back to Chel's home… fast.  Before anyone could see her.  Slowly she turned, finding that each step hurt more than the last when she put weight on the right foreleg.
