"Now is not the time." Riley shook his head. "Now is never the time." Mauki shrugged. "Today is all we are certain to have. I figured that out too late." "Everything happens for a reason." Riley stated. "You learn from your mistakes and go on with life." "That's always been your problem, Riley. You act like there's always going to be a tomorrow," snorted Mauki. "I've seen nothing to indicate any differently." Riley rolled his eyes. "In Lexx's case, MY line of reasoning is more reality than yours." "You barely know Lexx." "I know him the same as you, Tai, Dom… Trasik." "I -AM- his brother." Riley snapped suddenly. "Does that make him more your brother than I am?" Mauki sneered in annoyance. "You had better be glad that Father has no idea what you're doing. He TOLD you to stay out of this." "Father wanted to turn away and pretend Lexx no longer existed!" Riley's fangs flashed as he leaned closer to his brother. "He's too busy now to even know what I'm doing, otherwise, he would've contacted me by now. Father doesn't CARE." "And Mother?" Mauki scowled. "She knows." "She hasn't said anything to me." Riley frowned in disbelief. "Mother wouldn't get in the wa-" A low rumbling sound of some upset animal rolled across the savannah. Riley turned at the same time Riley stopped speaking. The ground was shaking just enough to be noticed and there was a rise in volume coming from the west. "… Lexx?!" Riley gasped, realizing he couldn't see the rishan anywhere. "Uhm, Riley. What is that… the ground is shaking!!" Mauki commented fearfully. He could see dark shapes moving in the distance. Large dark shapes. A trumpeting sound suddenly echoed from the shapes and they appeared to be moving in an agitated manner. There were more screechy bellows, then a distinctive yell and flash of light, followed by a crackling boom like one would hear after a bolt of lightning had struck. A shrill, inhuman shriek followed and despite their better judgment, both Riley and Mauki ran in the direction of the creatures. "I didn't hear it coming… I didn't hear it coming…" Lexx thought over and over again In the midst of the large milling, shapeless objects. He had just been surprised into action by a confusing mass of creatures. Now he was unsure of what he was up against or how to get away from them without killing them… or himself.
