In a flash of light, Drift's body changed. His tiny form gave way to a much larger one as the nanites converted stored energy into mass. In a matter of minutes the transformation was complete and Epsy was being held down by the form of an immensely larger and furrier Drift.
Drift lifted his head and roared, "Get out of here!" It was taking a lot of effort to hold Epsy down. He was larger, but still levels under her. He also didn't outweigh her. His body was mostly fur covering a streamlined frame meant more for speed in a dry environment than fighting in a wet one.
Chel, Riley and Stealth watched from the safety of the trees. Chel was amazed at Drift's change and worried at the same time. Stealth watched. Her ears twitched indecisevly.
"They're fine." Lexx stared at Drift. He had finally reached a form resembling his original base. Another flawed dice. Drift had never managed to go the next side under Lexx's training, no matter how hard he had tried. "I have to destroy the eggs ... no."
No more distractions. Lexx covered the last few feet to the nest.
Epsy growled and continued struggling. She could feel Drift slipping, but he kept shifting and wrapping his large paws over her. If he didn't use his claws, he wasn't going to get a good grip on her.

I already miss the cute, cuddly Drift. This one’s cool too I guess. Actually, he’s still pretty adorable in the first panel.

“In a matter of minutes” seems rather long in this context. Don’t you mean “In a matter of seconds”?
