Zaile leaned against the balcony railing. It was all so crude and unfinished. This place wasn’t what he was accustomed to. It was dirty and stank of the surrounding ocean. The air was thick and damp and his clothing was sticking uncomfortably to his skin. What am I doing here? Zaile asked himself. Lexx isn’t here, so I might as well return to my ship. –It’s not my fault he isn’t – Zaile stared out over the ocean. He didn’t want to run into Lexx, even though Lexx was the reason he was here. Further down the balcony, Lexx’s golden door swirled into existence. He had set it outside with the thought that Chel and her father would still be there. Lexx was surprised to see them gone and even more surprised that Zaile was there. Zaile turned to see who was arriving. His mind was wiped clean by the sight of Lexx, who was walking quickly up to him as though disbelieving he was really there. The two stared wordlessly at each other for a moment, searching for what to say.
