Melissa leaned back. Victor recognized the academic wheels turning behind her thick glasses. She had the ability to completely separate herself from her emotions and look at things from a different angle; something which Victor had a difficult time doing when it involved his family.

“Vic,” Melissa began. “When I was a young woman and had a friend who was a guy whom I liked, sometimes I wanted to keep it a secret.”

“Bu-bu, Melissa!” Victor stumbled over his protest. “You can’t sug-”

“Yes, Vic, I am suggesting that Chel may like this alien and feel the need to protect him. He looks very human, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility.” Melissa nodded slowly as she spoke. She had been the one to find the DNA on the wings. Even in the dark images her husband had shown her, it was obvious the wings were the same.
