"I am very afraid of the conclusion of this game."  Sirius chose his words carefully.  "Even if Lexx wins …"
"You don't think he would take care of you?"  Chel looked up incredulously.  The dice were people to her.  They spoke.  They had feelings.  They expressed them and they held them back.  They were also unpredictable animals, but that did little to sway Chel's disbelief that Lexx would actually abandon them.
"How could he?"  Sirius grimaced.  "He can barely take care of himself … and without a goal, we're useless.  We're all just a reminder of a horrible time in his life."  He spoke frankly.  It wasn't out of a dislike of Lexx, but a knowledge of what Lexx did with things that reminded him of bad times.  Sirius was very observant.  Before Chel had come, there had been few times when Lexx spent time outside of training to talk to the dice or even interact them.
He fed them.  He took care of them.  But he didn't have a bond with them beyond master and servant.  Sirius had served as he felt he should, but unlike most of the other dice, he could look forward and ponder the future.  Here and now was not going to always be like this.  He did not have faith in Lexx to have any sort of responsibility for them once the game they were needed for had ended.
Sirius could not help but feel that there was something wrong in being tossed aside after all they had done.  He was not angry with Lexx.  He had never mentioned it to him and was afraid to have his fears realized.  It just wasn't something that a servant asked a master.
