Chel turned off the light and got into bed without bothering to put on a nightgown.  Even if Kip was just a piece of computer hardware, she wasn't about to get undressed in front of him.  He looked far too human and he enjoyed recording everything that went on around him.  Chel wriggled out of her jeans under the covers and kicked them off the bed, then rolled over, face down into her pillow. It wasn't fair.  Now that she was by herself, she had time to think,… and every thought was dominated by Lexx.  There was that strange way he looked at her, the tone in his voice and the odd ways that he moved.  The way his dark hair waved in the breeze.  The way that his firm, toned muscles shifted under imperfect skin,… … The young woman sighed, staring into the darkness.  It wasn't fair.  This was what she imagined love to be like, but had never accepted as reality.  It was unreal because she had never felt it before. There were guys she had dated that she was attracted to in one way or another.  She liked their personalities, their charisma, intelligence, thoughtfulness or the way they looked.  Rarely did any of these young men have more than one or two good points,… and never, never did any of them have everything. Lexx did. He was also the worst prospect.  It just wasn't fair.  Sure, life wasn't supposed to be fair, but why did Chel have to meet someone who she considered so perfect, even with his flaws,… with blue skin, pointy ears and currently,.. wings?  What was she supposed to do? Go after him?  Have some wild one night stand? No.  They were just random thoughts, but each one deserving of thought.  She glanced at the ring glinting on her hand and smirked.  This was not nearly as bad as she was making it out to be.  Just let time pass and see what happened.  She could tell her parents about him without telling them he was not quite human, then once they had settled with the idea of 'Lexx', she could tell them.  If they joked about it, she'd laugh and say she was kidding and never mention him again. Chel whispered a silent prayer to herself and closed her eyes, wondering what Lexx was doing and thinking, 'It's better this way,…  I wonder what Lexx is doing.' At that same moment, Lexx was going over his own thoughts.  The dice were sleeping down in the bio unit, all of them.  He had lost his patience earlier with Stealth and that had ended in a shouting match and Lexx getting slapped across his legs.  He had no idea what was wrong with her and now he was sitting alone in the living area with the lights down low.  'It's better this way,… remove the distraction and the temptation.'  He told himself.  '… deuce …'  Lexx sighed and rubbed the back of his hand over his eyes. 'I already miss her.'  He admitted, shifting on the couch to stare out the window at the stars.  'But she's out there… and I can go see her when I want to.  I feel that she needed this and so did I. Without her here, everything will be clearer.  I can go back to being myself and concentrate better.  I must get serious.  It's time to play the game.' Lexx repeated it again. 'It's time to play the game.'  He paused.  'The game… the game I've never stopped playing.  It's just a game.  Right now, I want to find and kill whoever it was who came up with this game and was insane enough to CALL it a game.'  Lexx scowled, hatred intensifying with each passing second.

  1. Err, may I remember Lexx, that the humans themselves have called most gruesome sports ‘games’ before? For example the fights in the coliseum were ‘games’ to them, and those who were fighting mere playthings, to be tossed aside when they expire their usefulness.

It’s just the same…those who are privileged enough can call it a game…because they are not a part of it. For them it is a game. For the game pieces, however, it isn’t.

    1. I guess this explains why I always felt sad for my chess pieces.

    2. DarknessShallFall

Dont forget the version of soccer the aztec and myans played where the loosing team was sacraficed to their gods.
